Veggie Heaven #26: Soy for the Soul

On your way home from work one evening, peel away from the relentless traffic to pick up a #26 (Spicy Soybean Tofu) from Veggie Heaven on Guadalupe just north of MLK. I’m convinced a steaming bowl of this saucy, spicy tofu dish (I recommend brown rice with it) has medicinal value, for anything from congestion to rainy-day blues or a bad day at work. So I’m not surprised Austinites voted the restaurant as having the Best Tofu Dish in the Chronicle’s 2003 Restaurant Poll. I’m a #26 loyalist, but Veggie Heaven is not a one-dish wonder; Austin also voted it Best Vegetarian and critics voted it Best Natural Foods. The one thing #26 can’t cure is the Monday blues, since the restaurant is closed on Monday’s. And, parking is limited to a handful of spaces, so car pool instead of meeting your friends there.

Now Veggie Heaven opens on Mondays
#26 is the BEST spicy tofu

I love Veggie Heaven! It is the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to. It has become a tradition in my family to eat there every time we visit Austin.
